Format: DVD MOVIE Reader Reviews Okay, for those who don't already know, this is a CGI sequel to the popular Playstation RPG Final Fantasy VII. If you want a plot summary, look it up on Wikipedia, but don't expect to understand it fully without experiencing the game yourself. Essentially, two years after the game's close, Cloud and the gang find themselves confronted with a trio of whiny, yet surprisingly tough, silverhaired crazies with a plot that involves the children of Midgar, the ever-present Lifestream, and their search for "Mother"--or at least, what's left of her. Now, this is an entertaining film. There's a massive amount of action, an interesting storyline (for FFVII veterans, not so much for newbies; see below), and some really, really good animation. I couldn't leave my seat for the duration of the film. There's a good bit of humor (both intentional and otherwise; half of the trio's dialogue revolves around "Mother," and about two-thirds through the film, I spontaneously shouted "MOMMY!" It actually fit perfectly with the scene...), plenty of drama, and fight scenes galore. The music is great as well, though a good deal of it is ripped from the FFVII Piano Collection. The major problem is the film's inaccessibility to newcomers to the story. Things get very confusing if you've never played the game, and while scanning a Wikipedia article helps, I worry it might become too much for an FFVII virgin to understand. Still, I'd definitely reccomend buying the film. It's a good hour and a half's worth of entertainment, and hell, the cost is now down to $8 USD. It's worth it.
