The short, conceptual pieces are included in every major retrospective of Wegman's art and are essential to understanding his ouevre. The tape includes Spelling Lesson, Dog Duet, Drinking Milk, plus 15 more. <P>Dog Baseball , made in 1986, features Wegman at bat against nine canine fielders. This piece, in which Fay Ray made her debut, was shot on 35mm film and originally aired on Saturday Night Live.

We laughed until tears ran down our cheeks. The art is not in the production values; it's in the dislocation of your intelligence onto a new track, neurons skipping across their well worn dog-human paths into something strange and familiar at the same time.
