If you are looking for the films were the eclipsed sun travels to the center of the screen and changes to Schick-Sunn. This is one of them. Sun Classic Pictures presents "In Search Of Historic Jesus" (1979). A good companion to JESUS OF NAZARETH (1977). The Old Testament contained prophecies that the Messiah (would be God's son) would arrive. The propecies came true and when Jesus was born it began his true-life story. Ultimatly, the New Testament came to be and was written. Now the New Testament contains prophecies for the present and the future. it is promised that Jesus will return. We shall arise and we must face God on Judgement Day to answer to our sins. The choice will be made by God and the elders if we are worthy to be in Heaven for eternal life or be cast in Hell. This documentary will help you understand how the Bible came to be, Jesus' birth, his life from child to adult, and his mission. The date of the Resurrection in this film may or may not be exact. Scholars will always debate this. It is agreed that Herod died at the beginning of the 37th year or immediatly before Passover. The date of Herod's death took place subsequent to the birth of Jesus. In short, 4 B.C. (their was no year "zero") is the latest possible date that can be assigned to his birth. Jesus will return 2000 years after his death (not after his birth and not the year 2000). His return could happen April 28, 2031 or 40 days after that. However the Bible does state, we are not to know of the exact date of his return. We could guess the season. We could guess April. We could guess 2031 or give and take a couple years. The events, plagues and prophecies in the New Testament and Revelation must occur for Jesus to return. The film does make one noticable mistake. They say the Crucifixion was on a Friday. Not true. The Crucifixion was on a Wednesday. Three days passed. The women could not buy the oils and spices during Passover. So on Sunday morning, it was discovered Jesus was gone from the tomb and had arisen. This film also discusses the mystery of the shroud. Outdating this film, the shroud was a hoax (about being Jesus) and could not have been Jesus. In the cast of this film: John Rubenstein as "Jesus", Brad Crandall is the narrator, Morgan Brittany, Royal Dano, Lawrence Dobkin and John Hoyt. Filmed in Utah. I highly recommend JESUS OF NAZARETH (1977) which you can buy on Amazon.com on VHS and DVD.

I went to see "In Search Of Historic Jesus" with my dad and brother in the theater when it first came out. It was a big deal back then and the show was sold out when we arrived so we had to catch a later one. After seeing Mel Gibson's "Passion Of The Christ," I decided to research some of these Jesus "flicks" and have finally recovered this one. This is one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen, but don't let that stop you! I've watched it 3 times now and have enjoyed the experience very much each time! The actors in this movie are horrible (as are their fake beards), the casting is unconvincing (not the most Semitic looking cast in Jesus film history), the special effects were awful (I especially liked the yellowish rubbery fake arms being nailed to the cross - they looked more like Spielberg's E.T. model than a human) and the gospels are essentially presented alongside the "scientific" and "forensic" testimony of "experts" who all seem to share the same faith (no counter-arguments in THIS "documentary"). At the center of this movie's focus is the Shroud Of Turin, which was proven to be a fraud in the late 1980s with the radio carbon dating of three different labs. If you're a Christian, you probably don't need this movie to convince you anyway. If you're NOT a Christian, this movie will provide you with plenty of laughs and an excellent sample in the study of the art of propoganda. Christians should focus more on the TEACHINGS of Jesus instead of obsessing over his grisley execution because as soon as someone comes along to make a film like this, the whole community of believers is just going to look like a bunch of ignorant morbid fools. I only wish that the director had relied on that technique that the History Channel uses of posting "Reenactment" over the biographical scenes. That's the level of quality we're talking about here.
