It is an infant called Brianand the three wise men are in the wrong manger. For the rest of his life, Brian (Graham Chapman) finds himself regarded as something of a Messiah, yet he's always in the shadow of this Other Guy from Galilee. Brian is witness to the Sermon of the Mount, but his seat is in such a bad location that he can't hear any of it ("Blessed are the cheesemakers?"). Ultimately he is brought before Pontius Pilate and sentenced to crucifixion, which takes place at that crowded, non-exclusive execution site a few blocks shy of Calvary. Rather than utter the Last Six Words, Brian leads his fellow crucifixees in a spirited rendition of a British music hall cheer-up song "Always Look On The Bright Side of Life." The whole Monty Python gang (Chapman, John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, and Terry Gilliam) are on hand in multiple roles, playing such sacred characters as Stan Called Loretta, Deadly Dirk, Casts the First Stone, and Intensely Dull Youth; also showing up are Goon Show veteran Spike Milligan and a Liverpool musician named George Harrison. Reader Reviews Well, I have to say. The latest batch of newly released Blu-Ray titles are Awesome looking transfers. For those of you who have not jumped over to Blu-Ray yet, these great titles are unmatched in picture and sound. So, if you are a fan of the Life Of Brian, you will surely be pleased. This disk was viewed on a Sony XBR4 monitor. Calibrated with a Digital Video Essentials Disk. Playback was acheived with a Sony PS3, using monster HDMI cables. Audio source was a Sony STR-DG910 receiver, with Bose Acoustimass 16 series 2 speaker system. So....with that said.... First off, this movie looks fantastic. It really amazes me how a 30 year old film can be so sharp looking. The tranfer gives new life to a " classic " comedy made in 1979. The detail is awesome. Very clean transfer. No scratches or dirt of any kind. No blemishes or artifacts are present. The cleaning and restoration could not be done any better. The colors are bright and vivid. Skin tones are accurate. Blacks hold well, though the day seens are what really stand out. You simply wont find visual problems with this video. Reference quality really applies here. Remember, this film is alomost 30 years old. It is as good as it will get with current technology. Blu-Ray on 1080P display that is. As far as sound goes. It is nothing of note. The voices are clean and clear. Once again, as good as it should be. This is not a movie to display your Home Audio system. This film was probably recorded in mono originally. Though it is presented in True HD 5.1, it will not make a lasting impression on you. Then again, it is a comedy. There are many action adventure movies out there that will fill that bill for the audiophiles out there. The sound is clean and satisfies most needs. Overall, this is a great buy. If you want to see Life Of Brian in the best possible presentation availible. Here it is. If you are a Python fan, you will be very happy to see the care put into preservation and cleaning. You simply cant do much better. I was very surprised how nice this came out.
