I haven't read the book, so I can't compare the two, but the movie is a wonderful and very poignant love story with great performances by Gerard Butler and Hilary Swank, as well as lots of lovable supporting characters. I thought it was very easy to sympathize with Swank in her grief. It is incredibly sad, though, and I cried almost from start to finish, so bring the tissues!
