Reader Reviews The Good Things *Some good comedy moments. ood characters with good touching moments. Some good conflicts. *Funny moments that poke fun at Disney-style fantasy cliches or story elements. It's like a self-parody. *Strong themes concerning fantasy versus reality. *Lots of homages to earlier Disney works and other fairy tales. *Cool ending. Great special effects, and they don't overwhelm the movie. The Bad Things *Has some very silly parts, but is not belly-achingly funny or anything. I heard a rumor that a bunch of young single dudes like myself paid to go into the theater to see this. For a group of men, who usually divulge in R-rated action blockbusters, this is very uncharacteristic. And I still don't see why. This is very much a family-orientated movie, with lots of silliness that is not really funny. The characters are well-developed, and the love story is cute. It does have its moments, and everything turned out peachy in the end. But even as a romatic comedy, it seems like other similar work (like "Splash" or "Elf") are superior. Overall, this is just okay. Great for families or fans of romatic fish-out-of-the-water type comedies.
